Orrick has advised Berlin based Bergfürst AG on the corporate venture capital investment by Commerzbank’s real estate subsidiary Commerz Real. Through this transaction, Commerz Real has acquired a 24.9% stake in Bergfürst and is now its second largest shareholder and strategic partner.
Bergfürst operates a crowdlending platform through which retail investors can invest in individual real estate objects or in real estate portfolios. The company was founded in 2011 by Dr. Guido Sandler and Dennis Bemmann and is today among the top 3 online platforms for real estate crowd-investing in Germany. Besides Commerz Real, current investors include inter alia Berliner Volksbank and the WELT media group.
