Lorraine McGowen Named to Savoy Magazine's Most Influential Black Lawyers List for the Second Time

July.25.2018

Congratulations to Lorraine McGowen on once again being named one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers by Savoy Magazine. This list honors African-American men and women at leading national law firms and corporate and general counsel from Fortune 1000 companies for their legal leadership, expertise and community service. Lorraine was previously named to the list in 2015.

For over 30 years, Lorraine has advised leading financial institutions, syndicated lender groups, creditor committees and other parties seeking to maximize their recovery or reduce their exposure in restructuring matters. Most notably, she is representing financial institutions in the restructuring of Puerto Rico’s $72 billion indebtedness and serves as lead global restructuring counsel for Toyota Motor Corporation in connection with Takata’s multi-billion dollar insolvency proceedings in Japan and the U.S.

A longtime leader of Orrick’s Diversity & Inclusion program, Lorraine is also a strong advocate for diversity at Orrick and in the legal profession generally. She is the recipient of the NYC Bar Association’s Diversity Champion Award and Legal Outreach’s Pipeline to Diversity Champion Award. Lorraine recently completed two terms of service on the firm’s Board of Directors and previously chaired Orrick’s Restructuring Group.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession and the New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, and on the Advisory Committees for Legal Outreach and the Vance Center for International Justice of the NYCBA. She is also a 2016 alumna of the DirectWomen Board Institute.
