June.11.2018

Orrick has won the inaugural Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) Deal of the Year Award for Poland at theCEE Legal MattersDeal of the Year” Awards Banquet in Prague on 7 June. The firm was recognized for its work on Mid-Europa’s 2017 sale of Zabka Polska, one of Poland's largest chains of convenience stores, to CVC Capital. The sale is the largest ever transaction in the Polish food retail sector and the largest ever private equity exit in Poland.

Finalists were selected by a first panel of highly-regarded private practitioners in each market, and the winners were then determined by a second group of prominent legal experts from across CEE, evaluating submitted deals signed in the 2017 based on deal complexity, market significance, and innovation.

“We are exceedingly pleased to have been recognised in this way by our peers in the region and are thankful to our client, CVC Capital for entrusting us to assist them in this landmark transaction” commented Shawn Atkinson.

"To a real extent, the ability to make these important deals happen demands a unique combination of skill, passion, training, and commitment that the best lawyers in the region bring to their work every day," said CEE Legal Matters Executive Editor David Stuckey, who co-hosted the event with CEELM Managing Editor Radu Cotarcea. "We were honoured to have so many of these skilled and successful lawyers join us for this unique celebration in Prague and a pleasure to so publicly commend them for their efforts to their clients, the countries they work in, and CEE as a whole."
