Orrick Adds Energy Disputes Lawyer Mark Beeley in London

Mark BeeleyOrrick announced today that Mark Beeley has joined our London office as an international arbitration partner. Mark focuses on representing clients in the energy sector in commercial arbitration, investor-state arbitration and before the courts, with particular experience in Africa, India and the Middle East. He joins from Vinson & Elkins, where he was a partner.

Mark’s arrival follows the firm’s addition of James Hargrove, also an English lawyer and international arbitration practitioner, who joined from Eversheds-Sutherland in February. This makes Mark Orrick’s fourth hire in London this year, also following the additions of Paul Doris, a private equity lawyer focused on the energy & infrastructure market, and Ali Ramadan, a rising star in the European venture capital space.

“We’re delighted to continue to invest in our international arbitration platform with Mark’s arrival in London,” said Charles Adams, head of Orrick’s International Arbitration practice and the former U.S. Ambassador to Finland. “We’re deeply committed to offering a world-class team in this area, which is critical to our energy and infrastructure, technology and financial services clients in markets worldwide.”

Mark sits as arbitrator, and in relation to his counsel work is Chambers-recognized for arbitration and disputes in India as well as in the UK, where clients report that he “knows oil and gas inside and out.” Outside of the energy space, he also has significant experience with construction, telecoms, insurance, shareholder and white-collar/civil fraud matters (including corruption and sanction violation issues), as part of a broader commercial practice.

“The Orrick platform is a terrific fit for my practice,” said Mark. “The firm is a global litigation powerhouse with a deep focus on the energy and infrastructure sector, and I’m thrilled to join Charles Adams and be part of building the team.”

Global Arbitration Review recently named Orrick to the GAR30, its list of the world’s leading international arbitration practices.

Mark is a member of several arbitration institutions as well as a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. He follows James Atkin, also from Vinson & Elkins, who recently joined Orrick in Tokyo to serve as global co-head of the firm’s Oil & Gas practice.

“We’re excited to build out our UK offering for the energy and infrastructure sector,” said Kolvin Stone, Orrick’s London office leader. “Mark is a great fit to help us grow our London dispute resolution platform.”
