Three Orrick Litigators Named BTI Client Service All-Stars

Congratulations to Orrick partners Josh Rosenkranz, Morty Dubin, and Eric Shumsky on being named BTI Client Service All-Stars. Josh was named to the list for the fifth consecutive year, while Morty and Eric are both new additions to the list.

The leader of our Supreme Court & Appellate team, Josh was recently named Litigator of the Week by The American Lawyer for the fifth time after a big win in the Federal Circuit on behalf of our client Oracle in the ongoing battle over Google’s use of Oracle’s Java software code in the Android operating system. The American Lawyer has also honored Josh twice as Litigator of the Year.

A partner in our Mass Torts & Product Liability team, Morty recently secured a complete defense verdict for client Johnson & Johnson in the nation’s first trial involving claims that asbestos in the company’s baby powder caused mesothelioma. The win was named one of the Top Defense Verdicts of 2017 by the Daily Journal.

A partner in our Supreme Court & Appellate team, Eric recently argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in Hughes v. United States, which addresses a unique issue concerning how the lower courts resolve legal matters when the Supreme Court itself has been divided in its precedent. Eric also recently led the Orrick appellate team that played a key role in an important California Supreme Court win involving the bankruptcy of the Heller Ehrman law firm.

Josh has been named American Lawyer's “Litigator of the Year” twice in addition to being a finalist for 2022. In 2012, the magazine dubbed him “the Defibrillator” based on his streak of appellate wins for companies that “appeared to be at death’s door,” and in 2017 it declared, he “still deserves the moniker we once gave him.”

In 2014, The Financial Times named Josh one of the 10 most innovative lawyers in the North American legal sector for his work “demystify[ing] the technical issues” and securing a victory in the blockbuster Federal Circuit appeal, Oracle v. Google. Eric Shumsky Partner

Eric has served as appellate counsel to a who’s who of leading companies, including AT&T, DISH Network, Facebook, Genentech, Gilead, KPMG, LG Electronics, LinkedIn, Lyft, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Netflix, Norfolk Southern, Synopsys, Twitter, and Union Carbide. Across an array of industries, Eric has briefed and argued issues as diverse as patent and copyright, labor and employment, preemption, punitive damages, environmental law, national security, and foreign sovereign immunity. Eric has particular proficiency in matters of technology and intellectual property.
