Legal Outreach Honors Lorraine and Gailon McGowen

June.28.2017

Congratulations to Lorraine McGowen and her husband, Gailon, who were honored with Legal Outreach’s Pipeline to Diversity Champion Award in recognition of their commitment to diversity and early intervention pipelines. Legal Outreach is a nonprofit organization that mentors and prepares underserved New York City youth – from junior high through law school – to compete academically.

According to Legal Outreach, Pipeline to Diversity Champions are characterized by the length and duration of their contributions to Legal Outreach and its students.

The McGowens have been a key part of Legal Outreach for decades, dedicating their time, resources and experience to improving the lives of students in the program and ensuring that they have access to life-changing opportunities. Lorraine is an active member of Legal Outreach’s Advisory Board, and Gailon serves as the treasurer of its Board of Directors.

Through Lorraine’s leadership, Orrick has partnered with Legal Outreach since the 1990s, providing financial assistance and summer internships to college-bound high school students to introduce them to working at a law firm. We are also the principal sponsor of Legal Outreach's College to Law School Pipeline Diversity Initiative, which provides free LSAT instruction and legal assistant internships for college students who graduate from Legal Outreach's college prep program.

Lorraine and Gailon were recognized with the Diversity Champion Award during Legal Outreach’s 2017 Pipeline to Diversity Benefit. The event raised enough funding to welcome more than 100 students from underserved communities into Legal Outreach’s PACT and RISE Law and Justice Institutes this summer.
