Orrick Announces 3rd Annual Veterans’ Legal Career Fair

November.11.2016

Orrick is pleased to announce that the 3rd annual Veterans’ Legal Career Fair will take place on May 5-6, 2017 in Washington, D.C. This event – the only one of its kind in the United States – provides a unique opportunity for legal employers to interview lawyers who are veterans or active-duty service members preparing for a transition out of the military, as well as their spouses.

“The VLCF has made a meaningful impact in its first two years, generating more than 800 interview opportunities with more than 50 legal employers, and we look forward to improving it every year” said Mitch Zuklie, Orrick’s chairman and CEO. “We are honored to play a role in facilitating these opportunities and in some small way serving those who have served our country so ably.  These are men and women with proven grit, leadership and teamwork skills – qualities that are incredibly valuable in our firm and our profession.”

Building on the success of the prior two programs, the 2017 VLCF will allow employers an opportunity to host an informational table and network with potential job seekers, in addition to the option to conduct interviews for open positions. As another new enhancement in 2017 for candidates, the VLCF experience will include an opportunity to be matched with a volunteer mentor for an individualized resume review and interview skills coaching session.

Rabindra David, an associate in Orrick’s Sacramento office, is one veteran who has benefited from VLCF.  He was hired through the 2016 fair.

“There are a number of companies who express a desire to hire veterans, but those options are limited in the legal field,” Rabindra said. “I appreciated how Orrick and other law firms saw this need and filled it with the VLCF.”

Since it was founded in 2015, the Veterans’ Legal Career Fair has attracted more than 50 employers, including two dozen leading law firms as well as representatives of legal departments at major companies, and more than 300 candidates from around the world. The 2017 event will be held at the Marriott Metro Center.  Founding sponsors include Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, American Lawyer Media, The American Legion, D.C. Diverse Partners Network and Shearman & Sterling.

The 2017 event will feature panel presentations, a networking reception and opportunities for both interviews and informal networking. Candidates will be able to submit resumes online, review postings and identify positions of interest, while employers will be able to identify candidates and schedule interviews in advance.

Employer registration opens on Dec. 5, 2016, and candidate registration opens on Jan. 9, 2017. For more information, please visit www.veteranslegalcareerfair.com or contact us at [email protected].
