Estonian pellet producer Granuul Invest acquired the 556 MW coal-fired power plant in Langerlo, Belgium by way of a share deal through its subsidiaries GI Energy Investments and GI Power Plants from German Pellets Holding Belgium NV.

Graanul Invest plans to convert the plant for the combustion of up to 1.8 million metric tons of wood pellets per year by 2018, at the latest. A few months ago, the Belgian government had agreed to subsidize the conversion with a considerable billion Euro amount.
