The Orrick pro bono team of Jimmy McBirney, Shannon Leong and Megan Crane (who now practices full time with the Habeas Corpus Resource Center), were selected by California Lawyer as “Attorneys of the Year” for their pro bono habeas victory on behalf of George Souliotes.
Working with the Northern California Innocence Project, the team won a federal finding of actual innocence as well as a writ of habeus corpus. This resulted in the overturning of murder and arson convictions and Mr. Souliotes being released from prison after 16 years incarcerated.
