Tokyo Team Supports Joint U.S. Japan Effort

January.09.2014

Ted Johnson, Yumiko Ohta, Mari Hayashida and Kaori Kaneko have been providing corporate legal support to the United States Japan Council (USJC), the U.S. Embassy in Japan and the U.S. government to support the "Tomodachi" program. Tomodachi, which means "friend" in Japanese, is a joint U.S.-Japan effort to stimulate economic re-development in the Tohoko region devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

New U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy recently held a reception in Tokyo to honor six new major strategic partner supporters of the Tomodachi program: Honda Motors, Metlife, a financial firm, Sumitomo Corporation, Suntory Holdings and Toshiba Corporation. The event's program recognized Orrick as one of the official supporters based on our pro bono contributions.
