Two Orrick Lawyers Recognized Among Daily Journal's Top 30 Real Estate Attorneys of 2013

August.15.2013

Congratulations to Orrick real estate partners Bill Murray and Mike Liever on being selected to the Daily Journal’s list of top transactional real estate attorneys in California. Attorneys were selected based on the value and intricacy of their transactional work and the impact their work had on the marketplace and the surrounding community. Orrick was one of a handful of firms with more than one lawyer in the top 30 rankings.

A leading real estate lawyer for over 30 years, Mr. Murray was recognized for several high profile transactions, including his representation of JMA Ventures in connection with the selection of Sacramento’s Downtown Plaza Center as the site of the new Sacramento Kings stadium complex. Earlier this year, JMA-owned Downtown Plaza became the key component in the successful effort to keep the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise in Sacramento. Mr. Murray was intensely involved in leading this effort, assisting JMA in negotiations with the Kings’ new ownership group and in preparing the required submittals to the NBA to evidence necessary parcel control of the complex project. He also successfully closed the restructuring of a $2 billion joint venture between MUREF II, a fund managed by MacFarlane Partners, and JBG Properties.

Advising on the highest priced sale of a single property in Los Angeles in nearly a decade earned Mr. Liever a place on the Daily Journal list. Mr. Liever advised RREEF on its sale of the 1-million-square-foot Wilshire Courtyard office and entertainment complex in Los Angeles to Tishman Speyer Development Corporation for more than $400 million. He also was recognized for his work counseling Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management (formerly RREEF) on more than $1 billion in transactions since 2011.

Orrick’s Real Estate Group includes more than 65 lawyers across the firm’s United States, Europe and Asia offices. The group advises leading international investment funds, fund sponsors, real estate advisors, developers, public and private pension funds, REITs, investment banks and institutional lenders in all phases of real estate investment, finance, development and operations with an emphasis on joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions of large real estate portfolios, and complex finance and distressed debt transactions.
