Family Friendly: Orrick Named to Yale Law Women's List of Top Firms

April.17.2013

For the second year in a row, Orrick has been selected by Yale Law Women (“YLW”) for inclusion in its annual Top Ten Family Friendly Firms list. YLW produces this annual report to raise awareness of gender disparities within the legal profession, as well as to highlight progress and innovative solutions. Orrick is one of only five firms named to both YLW's Top Ten Family Friendly Firms and Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyer's 50 Best Law Firms for Women. Firms were surveyed in such areas as part-time and flex-time policies, leave policies, alternative career programs and gender equity in leadership.

"Orrick is honored to once again be selected by YLW for this important designation and applauds YLW for its great efforts in promoting the interests and development of women in the legal industry," said San Francisco intellectual property partner Karen Johnson-McKewan, who is co-leader of Orrick's Women's Initiative with New York structured finance partner Leah Sanzari. “We consider YLW’s list to be one of the benchmarks for our work, in which we strive to create an environment in which our female lawyers can match their success with their ambitions.”

Through the efforts of Orrick's Women's Initiative, the firm provides education and training to all of the firm's lawyers about the issues affecting women in the profession. Through communication, professional development and business development programs, policies promoting work-life balance and flexibility, recruiting and leadership, the firm strives to create an environment that encourages professional advancement for women.
