Assisting Undocumented Young Persons to Obtain Work Permits and Deferred Action on Any Potential Immigration Case

October.15.2012

A team of U.S. attorneys have volunteered to help young people as part of the Obama administration’s policy announced in June that it would be granting deferred action and work permits to undocumented individuals who meet certain criteria.  The decision is expected to affect literally hundreds of thousands of young people who came to the United States as minors and have been unable to adjust their immigration status.

Several of our legal services organization partners, including the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Volunteers of Legal Services and the Legal Aid Society of New York, are at the forefront of this program, and have trained our volunteers to represent clients in connection with their request for deferred action and work authorization.

The participating attorneys are Los Angeles senior structured finance associate Duane Beasley, Los Angeles litigation associate Ghazal Tajmiri, New York pro bono fellow Eliza Golden, San Francisco public finance associate John Palmer, San Francisco litigation associate Shannon Leong, San Francisco securities litigation and regulatory enforcement associate Jennifer Liu, San Francisco managing white collar associate Alexandra Brandon, San Francisco managing securities litigation and regulatory enforcement associate Katie Stowe, and Silicon Valley intellectual property associate Sonia Valdez.
