Orrick Announces Four New Partners in London

Adding Depth in Equity Capital Markets, M&A, Energy & Infrastructure and Litigation

London – Orrick has added four partners in the firm's London office. Stephanie Bates, formerly of Mayer Brown, joins Orrick’s Equity Capital Markets practice. Anthony Riley, formerly of Norton Rose, joins the firm’s M&A and Private Equity practice. Matthew Lawson and Simon Willis, formerly of Mayer Brown, join Orrick’s Commercial Litigation practice.
 
These moves follow the arrival of Sam Millar and Tony Katz, who joined the firm from Liquid Capital Group to head the London offices' financial institution litigation and regulatory practice.  This fall, the firm also added a five-partner acquisition finance team in New York from Milbank Tweed, Cadwalader, Shearman & Sterling and Barclays Capital, and an energy regulatory team in Washington, D.C., from Chadbourne & Parke.

Stephanie Bates
Formerly the co-head of Mayer Brown’s London Capital Markets Group, Bates focuses her practice on representing issuers and underwriters in U.K. equity capital markets transactions and public company mergers and acquisitions. Bates has substantial experience in the financial institution sector, having advised leading institutions in acquisitions and dispositions of asset management and commercial finance platforms.  She also acts for numerous FTSE 250 companies in U.K. and cross-border transactions, with a focus on the technology, media, house building, life sciences and retail sectors.
 UK-qualified, she brings additional depth to Orrick’s financial institutions practice, which comprises a third of the firm’s work globally.

Anthony Riley


Riley brings additional U.K. corporate finance and emerging market experience to Orrick’s market leading global renewable energy and clean-tech practice and the infrastructure practice.  He acts for sponsors, lenders, funds and other participants in the infrastructure and energy sector (including wind, solar, biomass, and nuclear projects).  He has advised on a variety of matters including the acquisition of equity stakes in the largest (London Array) and second largest (Thanet) offshore wind farm projects in the world.  He has extensive experience in Central and Eastern European and African projects, and practiced for several years in Frankfurt.  He is dual qualified in the UK and New York.

Matthew Lawson and Simon Willis


Lawson and Willis are commercial litigators who focus their practice on complex disputes for significant corporates, financial institutions and professional service firms. They have particular expertise in representing accountancy firms in litigation, regulatory investigations and enforcement actions around the world and have significant experience acting for clients subject to investigations by regulatory bodies including the Financial Services Authority, the Serious Fraud Office, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

Both UK-qualified, they add depth to Orrick’s market leading global professional liability and commercial litigation practices.
