  • Cacique: Someone can sit down with you for an hour and talk to you about how to review a document or draft purchase agreement or a checklist, but until you actually sit down and do the work and get the feedback, you're really not going to have the substantive experience that you need to get better at this job. And that's what it's all about. That's why it's called the practice of law.

When I was a junior associate, I was added to the U.S. Associates Committee. It gave me an opportunity to get insight into the firm's leadership, and it gave me a lot of exposure to personalities and practice groups that I would not have otherwise met. There were a number of partners and associates who were willing to give me mentorship and set aside time in their own busy days to help me get better at my job. Energy and infrastructure is a foundational aspect of our society, but it's not without its regulatory challenges and technological setbacks.

Right now, the firm is piloting a number of AI tools that help us with the more menial tasks of our day-to-day work. That really helps us to focus our mental bandwidth on a lot of the more substantive things that we need to do for clients. And it's really exciting to watch them build energy projects and to see those projects come to life and start operating.
