Billy Jacobson Discusses the FBI's Increased Focus on Foreign Corruption

The Wall Street Journal | January.14.2015

Orrick white collar and corporate investigations partner Billy Jacobson recently spoke with The Wall Street Journal regarding the news that the Federal Bureau of Investigation plans to triple the number of agents focused on investigating overseas bribery and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

According to Mr. Jacobson, who previously served as Assistant Chief for FCPA Enforcement in the Fraud Section of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, these additional agents may help address critics who claim that the government’s anti-corruption efforts should rely less on internal investigations conducted by companies who have broken the law. He noted, “Having more agents means you don’t have to rely as much on the companies.”
