Financing Wind Europe & the Wind Investment Awards 2021

Orrick’s global co-head of renewables Evan Stergoulis will moderate the “Fireside Chat: Floating wind” discussion covering the commercialization of the floating wind industry and the growing involvement by the oil giants in the sector. Evan will be joined by Vincent Fromont, President of Shell-EOLFI & General Manager Floating Offshore Wind at Shell-EOLFI, and Henrik Stiesdal, Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member at Stiesdal A/S.

The conference brings together leading clean energy financiers and investors to discuss offshore and onshore wind’s role in Europe’s post-Covid economic recovery. In response to the unprecedented decline in economic activity in Europe, EU leaders passed the largest stimulus package in EU history – a €1.8 trillion package - to bolster the EU economy and secure its long-term financial future. Explicitly tied to Europe’s economic recovery plan is building a more resilient and sustainable Europe – with 30% of the stimulus package earmarked towards climate objectives. For the offshore wind industry, 2020 and 2021 have brought exciting developments, including the deployment of multi-gigawatt projects and investment from the oil majors, and appears primed to capitalize on the EU’s ‘green recovery’ policies. In contrast, the onshore wind industry’s role in the ‘green recovery’ is uncertain due to issues related to project profitability and extensive permitting processes.
