Please join Orrick partner Matt Moses and a faculty of leading practitioners, in-house and outside counsel, and accounting and financial advisors, at the Practising Law Institute (PLI)’s Anti-Money Laundering 2019: Risks, Due Diligence and Compliance in an Evolving Legal and Technological World, on June 10 in San Francisco. This program will take participants through why understanding money laundering and AML/CFT compliance is important to any business and will explore the hottest topics and latest concerns in the AML industry.

Matt will be speaking on the panel, “Emerging Issues in AML and Money Laundering: Bank Secrecy Act Reform, Cryptocurrencies, and the Cannabis Industry.” Topics include:

  • Have AML/BSA reporting requirements gone too far?  Are there potential legal reforms which would benefit both industry and the regulators?
  • Cryptocurrencies are a hot topic.  But what are the AML obligations of digital currency businesses, and how should traditional banks regard them?
  • States continue to encourage the cannabis industry, which is potentially big business, while the federal government continues to maintain that cannabis-related conduct is illegal
  • Is there room for compromise, and for the cannabis industry to have access to the traditional financial system?
