RIMS - the risk management society
Speaking Engagement | April.25.2017 - April.26.2017
Philadelphia, PAIn Darren’s first panel, he will discuss how the Internet of Things (IoT) is changing the way we live and the way companies do business. By 2020 as many as 50 billion connected devices may be embedded everyday “things” like cars, buildings, planes, home appliances and wearables. These devices will communicate and interact with a matrix of devices and the cloud to become one of the largest sources of data. Extracting insights from such data will be of immense value to consumers and businesses alike. The opportunities presented by IoT are nearly boundless, but so are the associated risks, such as cyberattacks and even physical damage to infrastructure. Panelists include Steve Bridges, a cyber/E&O expert, and Ellen Shew Holland, Associate VP and Chief Risk officer at Southern Methodist University.
Darren’s second panel will focus on companies already connected to the sharing, or on-demand economy, describe how it extends into almost every facet of the consumer and business experience, and explore the varied risks posed by this business model, from employment issues to cyber risk. Darren and his co-panelist, Kate Sampson, Vice President for Risk Solutions at Lyft, Inc. will look at the risk impact for both on-demand companies and their traditional partners.
