Daniel Bellovin

Daniel Bellovin assists clients in a variety of regulatory, licensing, compliance and enforcement matters. He focuses his practice on advising bank and nonbank mortgage lenders, servicers, consumer lenders, commercial lenders and secondary market loan purchasers. Specifically, Daniel has significant experience advising clients on state and federal matters.

  Specifically, Daniel has significant experience advising clients on a myriad of state and federal matters, including:

  • Compliance with the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), the unfair or deceptive acts or practices (UDAP) and the unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP) provisions, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and other federal laws that apply to consumer financial services companies
  • Counseling clients in preparing for changes in regulations, developing compliance protocols, and responding to regulatory examinations, investigations, and enforcement actions
  • Mandatory purchase of flood insurance requirements under the Flood Disaster Protection Act, which includes regularly advising lenders and servicers on the ins and outs of the federal banking agencies’, FHA’s, and the government sponsored enterprises’ (GSE) flood insurance-related regulations and guidance
  • Assisting private equity firms with enterprise-wide regulatory due diligence reviews and acquisition of consumer financial services companies
  • Assisting clients with audits by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA)
  • Preparing comprehensive, high level, multistate surveys on various mortgage, automobile finance, debt collection, and license-related topics, including origination and servicing disclosure requirements, and other practice restrictions
