  • Mark Jansen, a Chambers Band 1-ranked trademark lawyer and brand counsel to leading technology companies, has joined Orrick as a partner. Based in New York, Mark will help shape the continued growth and evolution of Orrick’s trademark practice.
  • Mark advises clients on the brand decisions that drive commercial success and enterprise value, spanning global brand strategy, high-stakes disputes, and the intellectual property aspects of mergers, acquisitions and other strategic transactions.
  • Mark works with companies at every stage of growth, from startups to Fortune 100 companies, to build brands, bring products to market and protect the brand assets that drive business value. He counsels some of the world’s leading technology companies and has guided hundreds of brand and product launches. His experience spans AI, fintech, blockchain, enterprise software, hardware, consumer technology and e-commerce, gaming, autonomous vehicles and robotics, and space and defense technology.
  • Mark represents companies in high-stakes trademark disputes at every stage, from pre-litigation risk assessment, cease-and-desist demands and settlement negotiations to proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) and cross-border trademark conflicts. He also handles domain name disputes, anti-counterfeiting matters and trademark issues involving internet and social media platforms. His approach focuses on resolving disputes efficiently while protecting business priorities.
  • Mark is also an experienced negotiator of high-value brand transactions, including strategic acquisitions of trademarks and domain names, licensing arrangements and coexistence agreements that secure the rights companies need to launch, expand and grow.
  • Mark is the sixth IP practitioner to join Orrick this year, following ITC trial lawyer Jordan Coyle, IP trial lawyers Danielle Tully, Mike Powell and Josh Glucoft, and former USPTO Solicitor Farheena Rasheed. He joins from Fenwick, where he practiced for 15 years and became a partner in 2021.

“Clients at every stage look to us for advice on run-the-company issues as well as milestones, and trademark and brand counseling is key to both,” said Orrick trademark trial partner Sheryl Garko. “Mark brings a valuable business-minded approach to innovators, helping them navigate critical brand decisions as they launch products, expand into new markets and build businesses for the long term. His experience in high-stakes trademark disputes is also a natural complement to our trademark trial team.”

“Trademark excellence has long been a cornerstone of Orrick’s leading IP practice,” said Alyssa Caridis, leader of Orrick’s IP business unit. “Mark’s arrival further strengthens our capabilities across the full spectrum of trademark services, from strategic counseling to litigation. His commercial perspective and focus on evolving how trademark services are delivered will be valuable additions as we continue to grow our platform and support clients across technology, crypto and other emerging markets.”

“Orrick pairs deep strength in trademark trials and litigation with a leading technology platform and a focus on innovation,” said Mark. “I’m greatly looking forward to collaborating with this team to bring a technology-forward approach to how brand counsel is delivered, from a company’s first launch to its global portfolio.”

Mark has earned recognition from leading legal industry publications for his work in trademark strategy, enforcement and litigation. In addition to his recognition by Chambers USA for trademark, copyright and trade secrets transactional work, Mark has also twice been shortlisted for Managing IP’s Trademark Practitioner of the Year – United States. World Trademark Review 1000 recognizes him for enforcement and litigation, as well as prosecution and strategy, in New York, while The Legal 500 has recognized him annually as a key lawyer in intellectual property: trademarks since 2022.
