5 Years as a Fortune Best Place to Work

February.18.2020

For the fifth year in a row, Orrick is on Fortune’s list of the 100 best places to work.

“This record is a statement of the strategic value we place on having a modern and inclusive culture,” said Orrick Chairman Mitch Zuklie. “It’s also a reflection of the kind of collaborative and supportive environment in which we all want to work.”

In 2019, the firm continued to innovate in our workplace culture, policies and practices.

  • We enhanced the way we support new parents, now offering 16 weeks of paid leave to lawyers and staff – regardless of whether they are primary or non-primary caregivers. Birth parents continue to be eligible for another six to eight weeks of disability benefits. And new parents can take leave any time within the first 12 months after the child’s birth.
  • We expanded our “Unplug On Us” benefits to offer not only paid vacations but also “wellness dollars” gift cards to lawyers after particularly intensive periods of work.
  • In a celebration last November, we renamed our West Virginia operation the Global Operations & Innovation Center to more accurately describe what our teams there do for our clients and our firm.
  • Our lawyers contributed a record level of pro bono service (99% U.S. participation, 86% in Europe and Asia), while our lawyers and staff collaborated on 46 community service projects worldwide.

Fortune partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to select the list by conducting the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Three-quarters of a company's score is based on an in-depth employee survey. The balance focuses on an extensive 'culture audit' of each company, which includes a detailed analysis of pay and benefit programs, hiring practices, diversity efforts, internal communications, training, recognition and local community support.
