Lauri Damrell, Cynthia Larsen, Marc Levinson, McGregor Scott, Julie Totten and Michael Weed were named “Best of the Bar” by Sacramento Business Journal, doubling Orrick’s presence from last year. The annual list, which highlights outstanding lawyers in the greater Sacramento area, is compiled from peer nominations and then vetted by a panel of 20 well-known lawyers on a peer-review panel.
“We are thrilled that six of our team members have been recognized for their outstanding work in this year’s “Best of the Bar” list, and we continue to take pride in our place in the Sacramento community,” said Julie Totten, Orrick’s Sacramento Office Leader.
In addition to leading the Sacramento office, Julie is the partner in charge of the firm’s Sacramento Employment Law and Litigation group, recently named California’s Labor & Employment Department of the Year by The Recorder. Julie has more than 20 years’ experience representing companies in high stakes litigation. She is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment and is also a Council Member of the American Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. In 2014 she was recognized by Legal 500 as someone who "truly understands corporate politics and works with in-house counsel to understand the intersections of legal advice and business objectives."
McGregor Scott is Vice Chair of the White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Practice Group. Greg is recognized by Chambers USA in California, and is known for his effectiveness in compliance Issues. Greg's practice focuses on white collar criminal defense and corporate investigations. A former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of California, Greg has nearly 20 years of experience as a prosecutor, and has tried approximately 100 cases to jury verdict. He also served as an elected district attorney.
Lauri Damrell is a member of the Employment Law Group and focuses on employment litigation and counseling. Lauri has extensive experience in complex litigation and counseling involving wage-and-hour laws, independent contractors, exempt/non-exempt classifications, discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination and other employment regulations. A thought leader on diversity in the workforce, she was appointed by California Governor Jerry Brown to serve as Commissioner for the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.
Litigation partner Cynthia Larsen has more than 25 years of experience in business and governmental litigation and appeals. She focuses on the representation of public agency and private clients in complex disputes involving public agency and governmental law, insurance and insurance insolvency, government contracts and procurement, business torts, health care, environmental, and employment law.
Senior Counsel Marc A. Levinson of Orrick’s Restructuring Group concentrates on insolvency planning, bankruptcy cases, out-of-court reorganizations and workouts. He represents secured and unsecured creditors, acquirers of assets from insolvent companies, debtors, indenture trustees, committees, public entities, and bankruptcy trustees. He advised the City of Stockton on their Chapter 9 filing, the largest California city to seek bankruptcy relief.
Litigation and dispute resolution partner Michael Weed focuses on general commercial litigation. He has significant experience in a variety of substantive areas, including commercial contract and business disputes, trade secret misappropriation, false advertising and unfair business practices, environmental compliance and litigation, Proposition 65, and administrative enforcement proceedings.
These partners had a number of key successes in the past year. Greg and Marc were recently named to Sacramento Magazine’s Top Lawyers list. Greg helped lead an Orrick team retained by the University of California president to conduct an independent investigation of UC Davis chancellor Linda Katehi. And Lauri co-authored an Op-Ed in the San Jose Mercury News with California’s labor commissioner on the pay equity issue.
