30^th Annual National HIPAA Summit: Oh No! Breach By a Business Associate!

Thora Johnson led “Oh No! Breach By a Business Associate!,” a panel session* at the 30^th Annual National HIPAA Summit. Fellow legal and privacy risk-focused speakers from Accenture and the American College of Cardiology joined Thora for the discussion on breach liability for business associates under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The HIPAA Summit brought together current and former regulators from the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Other sessions included coverage of HIPAA enforcement initiatives, new cyber security threats, opportunities to hear privacy and security officers share best practices, and lessons on what challenges are to come and how to tackle them.
