Elisabeth (Lis) Blunsdon, Of Counsel in the London office, has extensive experience in energy regulation, M&A, derivatives, structured trading and commercial issues in the energy sector.

Lis has advised project developers, multinational energy and utility companies, investment banks, commodities trading houses, hedge funds and governments.

She has spent several extended periods on secondment to in-house legal departments in the energy sector. Lis has particular experience in the regulation, operation and optimisation of energy assets in the gas, renewables, power and nuclear sectors and Legal 500 UK describes her as a “key advisor” on “energy trading and regulatory matters.”

In 2014, Lis was recognised for her work on the Shah Deniz gas project when she won “Best in Energy, Natural Resources and Mining” at the Europe Women in Business Law Awards.

  • Lis's experience includes:

    • Advising RWE in relation to the proposed acquisition and conversion to biomass of Lynemouth coal fired power station in Northumberland, UK.
    • Advising a private developer bidder to acquire the 1200MW Immingham gas fired CHP plant in Lincolnshire from ConocoPhillips.
    • Advising an international power company in relation to the proposed conversion to biomass firing of the 1000MW coal-fired power station located in Rugeley, Staffordshire, particularly with regard to the ROC regime and forthcoming changes under EMR.
    • Advising MEAG on the acquisition of a 50% equity stake in the Marchwood 800 MW CCGT plant in the UK, particularly in relation to the impact of EMR on the plant.
    • Advising in relation to the Sutton Bridge tolling agreement and subsequent operational issues under the agreement.
    • Advising the developer of a waste gasification project in the UK on the CfD Fit regime and participation in the first auction round.
    • Advised The Crown Estate on development of offshore gas storage leases, including closing the Agreement for Lease on the Deborah field.
    • Advised the Shah Deniz consortium on Phase II of the development.
    • Advised Saltend Cogeneration Company Ltd in relation to gas supply arrangements and other aspects of operations at Saltend power station.
    • Advised on power offtake arrangements, green certificate trading, connection and regulatory issues for a project financed waste gasification project in the UK.
    • Advised in relation to power offtake and green certificate arrangements in a project financed wood burning power generation project in Belgium.
    • Advised on grid connection and offtake arrangements for several wind farm projects, including the Energiekontor portfolio and the Ecotricity portfolio.
    • Advised EnergieKontor on the energy offtake and connection arrangement for the Hyndburn, Withernwick and Burton Pidsea wind farms. The offtake arrangements involved in an innovative "sleeving" arrangement via a licensed supplier as the offtaker is a well known commercial entity which is not licensed.
    • Advised various private equity investors purchasing operating UK solar asset.
    • Advising a fund in relation to Community Interest projects and in particular on the grid connection aspect of connecting multiple FiT accredited installations at a single connection point.
    • Advised a potential investor in the refinancing of Maesgwyn wind farm.
