Lesley Durmann helps companies navigate compliance risks, respond to government investigations, and win in litigation.

Her practice focuses on complex civil litigation, white collar investigations, and regulatory compliance. In addition to her significant trial experience, Lesley assists clients in conducting internal investigations, crafting effective compliance programs, and negotiating settlements with government authorities. Lesley has also worked with Orrick’s Public Policy Group to develop creative, multi-faceted solutions for innovators facing legislative and regulatory challenges.

Lesley is fluent in Portuguese and previously worked with an international law firm in São Paulo, Brazil. Before joining Orrick, Lesley also served as a policy advisor in the Oregon State Senate.

    White Collar & Global Investigations

    • Member of an independent compliance monitor team appointed by DOJ and SEC for a large, multi-national company in the chemicals sector.
    • Represented a Fortune 50 company in internal investigations involving allegations of accounting fraud and violations of the FCPA.
    • Represented a Native American tribe in a criminal investigation involving allegations of fraud and embezzlement.

    Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution

    • City of Stockton, California. Lesley was an active member of the Orrick team representing the City of Stockton, California in its chapter 9 case. With approximately 300,000 residents, Stockton is the largest California city ever to seek bankruptcy relief. She played a key role in the trials determining Stockton’s eligibility for bankruptcy relief and the confirmation of its plan of adjustment, both of which resulted in precedent-setting opinions in Stockton’s favor.
    • Represented a prominent Los Angeles bankruptcy law firm in a challenge to its fees in a series of related chapter 11 cases.

    Legislative and Regulatory Strategies

    • Represented human resources platform Zenefits in connection with legislative and state Attorneys General efforts that secured the company’s future in the face of an uncertain insurance regulatory environment.
