Orrick Named One of Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers "50 Best Law Firms for Women"

August.06.2013

Orrick is honored to once again be named as one of Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers “50 Best Law Firms for Women.” This is Orrick's fifth time on the annual list which recognizes law firms that serve as a model for their family-friendly policies and business development initiatives which are designed to retain women and advance them into leadership. Orrick is one of only five firms named to both the 50 Best Law Firms for Women and Yale Law Women's Top Ten Family Friendly Firms. Among other criteria, firms were evaluated based on the percentage of female partners and the percentage of lawyers working flexible schedules.

“We care about gender diversity at Orrick for some very simple reasons: (1) half of our newly-minted lawyers are women; (2) women bring differences to the legal profession that only enrich our collective approach to solving our clients’ problems; and (3) women, like everyone else, will find success where they are wanted and needed and understood,” said intellectual property partner Karen Johnson-McKewan, who is co-leader of Orrick's Women's Initiative with structured finance partner Leah Sanzari. "Our Women’s Initiative is focused on assuring that our female colleagues know not only that we will help them find that success, but also to support them as they develop reputations for excellence with our clients and take their places in leadership, both inside the firm and out.”

Through the efforts of Orrick's Women's Initiative, the firm provides education and training to all of the firm's lawyers about the issues affecting women in the profession. Through communication, professional development and business development programs, policies promoting work-life balance and flexibility, recruiting and leadership, the firm strives to create an environment that encourages professional advancement for women.

Firms will be featured in the August/September issue of Working Mother magazine.
