Lorraine McGowen Selected for 2016 DirectWomen Board Institute

 

The mission of DirectWomen is to increase the representation of women lawyers on public company boards by identifying, developing and supporting a growing group of accomplished women lawyers who provide the experience, independence and diversity required for quality corporate governance. At the 2016 Board Institute, held October 19-21, 2016 in New York, class members will hear from and have the opportunity to interact with an extraordinary faculty of leading CEOs, directors of large public companies, and top representatives of executive search firms. The Institute is co-chaired by Professor Hillary A. Sale, Walter D. Coles Professor of Law and Professor of Management at Washington University in St. Louis, and Professor Lisa M. Fairfax, Leroy Sorenson Merrifield Research Professor of Law at George Washington University Law School.

“The DirectWomen Board Institute provides a great opportunity for women attorneys to focus their analytical and problem-solving skills on positioning themselves for service as Directors. The 2016 Class continues to make the case that women attorneys possess the judgment and business expertise needed for effective board service,” said Mary Ann Jorgenson, Selection Committee Chair and Past Chair of DirectWomen.

 

A member of Orrick’s New York Restructuring team, Lorraine focuses her practice on complex bankruptcies, out-of-court restructurings and creditors’ rights controversies for clients that include leading financial institutions, syndicated lender groups, creditor committees and other parties in the U.S. and internationally. A strong advocate for diversity in the legal profession, she serves as Chair of Orrick’s Diversity & Inclusion Initiative and was named one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers of 2015 by Savoy Magazine. Lorraine serves on the Board of Legal Advisers for Legal Outreach, a non-profit college-bound program for students in disadvantaged neighborhoods in New York City, on the Advisory Board for the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession and on the Advisory Committee for the Vance Center for International Justice of the New York City Bar Association. She is also on the Board of Directors for the New York Lawyers for the Public Interest.
