Orrick announced today that Stephen Thau, a leading advisor to life sciences and other tech companies, has joined the firm as a partner, based in Washington, D.C. Stephen joins from Morrison & Foerster, where he was a former co-chair of its Life Sciences Group.
“Expanding our life sciences platform is a critical part of our Tech and Life Sciences Sector strategy,” said Don Keller, the firm’s Technology and Life Sciences Sector leader. “Recruiting Stephen is part of a plan that began earlier this year with the opening of our Boston office. Many of us know Stephen well from our time together at Venture Law Group, and he is exactly the kind of high-quality corporate lawyer we want on our team.”
“Orrick’s clear Tech and Life Sciences Sector strategy and its emphasis on building destination practices around the needs of companies in the sector is incredibly compelling,” noted Stephen. “I’m thrilled to rejoin many friends and former colleagues and be part of growing a top tier life sciences platform.”
Stephen has represented companies and investors in life sciences and other sectors in countless venture capital and debt financing transactions, public offerings and public and private M&A transactions and strategic collaboration agreements. He has been recognized as a leading life sciences practitioner by LMG Life Sciences, Daily Journal, Chambers and Legal 500.
Orrick acts for 10 of the Forbes 25 public tech companies and 2,700+ emerging companies and investors, including 400 life science companies globally.
Stephen is the second recent addition to Orrick’s Washington, DC Tech and Life Sciences Sector team, following the arrival of Geoff Willard from Cooley last year.
