Orrick announced today that Chris Flood, a veteran of the Houston white collar defense bar and a seasoned trial lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in our Houston office. Chris joins Orrick from Flood & Flood, the firm he founded nearly 20 years ago.
Chris has represented clients in many of the most significant federal and state investigations in the Texas market and has prevailed in dozens of trials in federal courts around the country. His clients have included numerous executives accused of crimes in the Enron and Stanford Financial scandals; energy traders accused of manipulating the price of natural gas; and defendants in the largest-ever Internet gambling prosecution. He has represented prominent Mexican nationals fighting extradition to Mexico for politically motivated allegations as well as fighting attempts by the U.S. government to extradite Mexican politicians to the United States for alleged money laundering and RICO violations. He has counseled oil and gas industry clients in the U.S. and Latin America in a variety of investigations and civil matters. Earlier this year, he was named to the Texas Ethics Commission.
“Chris is a terrific addition to our national white collar practice and first chair trial bench. We are delighted to continue to grow our Houston team with a litigator of his caliber,” said Walt Brown, who leads Orrick’s White Collar, Investigations, Securities Litigation & Compliance group and serves on the firm’s Management Committee. Orrick’s Houston office, which the firm opened in 2016, now has 41 lawyers focused on all types of energy assets, Project Finance, M&A, Latin America, Public Finance, Litigation and IP.
“I have known and admired Chris for years, and it is an incredible honor to now have him join us as our partner,” added Carlos Treistman, head of Orrick’s Houston’s office and co-head of the firm’s Latin America team. “He will be an enormous asset to our clients in Texas and nationwide, and in Latin America.”
“Flood & Flood has been an extraordinary experience working with my brothers to provide the best representation we could to our clients,” Chris said. “However, it is time for a new challenge, and I am thrilled to be joining a platform of Orrick’s quality and scope. I was attracted by the firm’s vision of a broad practice in Houston that is aligned with the firm’s strength’s globally. Orrick offers top-tier trial and white collar defense resources, a global platform and a deep commitment to the Latin American market.”
Chris is the latest high-profile hire for Orrick’s white collar and investigations team. Last year, Melinda Haag joined the firm after serving for five years as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California. We have added other experienced Department of Justice lawyers around the country in the past two years in a number of offices, including Seattle, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
Orrick’s litigation department is widely recognized as an industry leader. The American Lawyer selected Orrick as a 2016 Litigation Department of the Year finalist, and the firm is #5 on Law360’s Litigation Powerhouses list.
