Orrick announced today that Matteo Daste, a tech-focused corporate lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in its Technology Companies Group. Formerly a partner with Squire Patton Boggs, Matteo will work out of Orrick’s San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices.

Matteo advises private and public entities and institutions in capital-raising transactions, mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations. He acts for a wide range of startups and has close ties to the Italian entrepreneurial community.

“Matteo brings a terrific portfolio of technology companies and a reputation as a trusted advisor,“ said Stephen Venuto, head of Orrick’s Technology Companies Group. “We’re focused on serving the tech ecosystem globally, and Matteo’s strong ties to the Italian entrepreneurial community are a natural fit with our leading Bay Area technology companies practice and our #1 ranked European venture capital practice.”

“I am thrilled to join the Orrick team. Orrick’s clear focus on the tech sector and its holistic approach to advising tech companies across all of their business needs were natural draws,” Matteo said. “Add to that the firm’s global reach, its strength in the Bay Area and its top European practice and it is an ideal platform for the clients I serve.”

Matteo is a founding member of the Business Association Italy America and serves as outside counsel to the Italian General Consulate in San Francisco. In 2015, he was awarded the title of Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia by the President of the Republic of Italy. Outside of his law practice, Matteo sits on the board of nonprofit Italian Community Services in San Francisco.

Orrick provides comprehensive counseling to more than 1,600 high growth companies in markets worldwide. Over the past three years, the firm has helped clients such as Pinterest, Stripe, 23andMe, SoFi, Prosper, Betterment, Flipagram and eHarmony put more than $11 billion in venture capital to work. In 2016, Orrick was named the Recorder’s Corporate Department of the Year: Emerging Companies. Globally, the firm ranks top 10 for M&A by volume through Q3 2016 by Bloomberg, and #1 for European venture capital, according to Pitchbook.

Matteo is the latest example of the growth of Orrick’s global tech platform. Since 2015, the firm has added partners in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Washington, D.C., London, Paris, Munich and Milan. Last month, the firm announced the addition in Silicon Valley of Glynna Christian, formerly head of Kaye Scholer’s Technology & Digital Transactions Group. She will co-head the Technology Transactions team at Orrick.
