Anne Malik is Partner in Orrick's Washington, D.C., office and a member of the firm's Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution group. With a focus on mass torts and product liability, Anne's practice involves defending companies in a variety of industries against complex tort suits. She also works with Orrick's Public Policy group advising clients on strategies for solving key state legislative issues.

Anne represents clients in product liability cases with high potential damages, multiple jurisdictions and plaintiffs, and significant risk to critical product lines.   She also assists clients with risk analyses involving product liability exposure related to expansions in distribution areas, cross-border sales, and new product lines.

Anne is a member of teams representing product liability clients that include a Fortune 500 chemical company, a European pharmaceutical distributor, and a key defendant in asbestos litigation across the country.  She is experienced in matters involving a wide variety of issues, including medical monitoring, stream of commerce liability (including across international borders), premises liability, and successor liability.   

Anne also works with Orrick's Public Policy group assisting clients with developing strategies to solve high-stakes issues in state legislatures, and with state Attorneys General.  Anne works with teams representing clients that include the country's biggest telecommunications company and an industry-leading satellite TV company.

  • Anne maintains an active pro bono practice.  She is currently representing a Texas death row inmate in his state habeas petition, and working with an Orrick team to address police misconduct in the city of Baltimore.

  • Anne's representations and experience include:

    • Acting as a member of the Orrick team that serves as National Counsel and litigation counsel to the Union Carbide Corporation in connection with asbestos-related personal injury lawsuits.
    • Acting as a member of the Orrick team that obtained dismissal in favor of a major chemical manufacturer in its defense of a putative class action in West Virginia alleging medical monitoring claims from the plaintiffs’ alleged exposure to chemicals emitted from a metals plant.
    • Acting as a member of the Orrick team that successfully defended a major chemical manufacturer as national counsel in a consolidated action in West Virginia involving more than 100 plaintiffs alleging injuries from chemical exposure during their employment.
    • Acting as a member of the Orrick team that obtained favorable resolution of a case on the eve of trial on behalf of a plastic products manufacturer that faced allegations of respiratory injury from 1500 plaintiffs.
    • Acting as a member of the Orrick team that successfully represented a major German manufacturer in a confidential ICC arbitration concerning contract and indemnification issues, obtaining substantially all of the relief requested.
    • Acting as a member of the Orrick team that successfully represented a U.S. investment fund in a dispute with its Indian partner arising out of the parties’ investment in an Indian securities business before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. Anne also successfully represented the client in its related suits for several anti-suit injunctions in aid of arbitration as well as litigation to confirm and enforce the arbitral award in favor of her client, and is advising Indian counsel in Indian proceedings related to defending and enforcing the arbitral award.
