With experience across the entire project lifecycle, Ryan is an energy and infrastructure lawyer with an established record in driving complex transactions and projects to completion.

Ryan is a lawyer in the Energy and Infrastructure Group, which Chambers USA (2025) recognized as Band 1 in Energy Transition; Projects: Renewables & Alternative Energy; and Projects: Power & Renewables.

He has experience representing sponsors, investors and lenders in project development and finance (including debt and tax equity), mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and general corporate matters. His experience spans tens of billions of dollars in transactions across the renewable energy, hydrogen/ammonia, renewable natural gas (RNG), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), conventional energy, telecommunications and maritime industries. He is proud and grateful to collaborate with an extraordinary group of colleagues on some of the most significant energy and infrastructure projects in the country.

Prior to joining Orrick, he practiced in Houston, Texas, at another global law firm and served as the Managing Editor of the Texas Law Review.

Ryan also enjoys volunteering and has provided several hundred of hours of pro bono legal advice, primarily on small business and non-profit transactional needs.

  • Renewable Energy, Carbon Capture and Climate Projects

    • Various developers in billions of dollars’ worth of project development agreements for wind, solar and storage projects across the U.S.
    • Various tax equity investors and sponsors in billions of dollars’ worth of tax equity transactions in wind, solar and storage projects across the U.S.
    • Various developers in the acquisition and sale of early stage solar and storage projects across the U.S.
    • Various developers in ground leases, easement agreements, title and survey reviews and other real estate matters for wind, solar and storage projects across the U.S.
    • Various non-energy companies in the purchase of federal tax credits in renewable energy projects.
    • Continental Resources in its $250 million strategic investment in Summit Carbon Solutions to fund the development and construction of carbon capture, transportation and sequestration infrastructure located in the Midwestern U.S. with initial capacity of up to 12.0 MMtpa and expansion capabilities up to 20.0 MMtpa.
    • Stonepeak in the approximately $300 million acquisition of an interest in a portfolio of four U.S. onshore wind projects with a total capacity of 957 MW from Ørsted, including the financing for the consummation of the acquisition.
    • Stonepeak in its approximately $3 billion acquisition of a 50% interest in the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, which at 2.6 GW is expected to be the largest offshore wind project in the U.S. and one of the largest offshore wind projects globally upon completion.
    • Affiliates of Global Infrastructure Partners in the acquisition of a 50% interest in the multi-billion dollar South Fork and Revolution Offshore Wind Projects off the East coast of the United States from Eversource Energy, including the negotiation of the joint venture arrangements with Ørsted for the construction and operation of the projects and all financing arrangements.
    • Long Ridge Energy Terminal, a portfolio company of Fortress Investment Group, in the execution of a definitive agreement for the investment in and development of a low carbon, biodegradable plastics production facility in Hannibal, Ohio with Newlight Technologies.
    • A car manufacturer in its purchase of ~$500 million of California and federal environmental credits.

    Hydrogen/Ammonia, RNG, and SAF Projects

    • Monolith, a green hydrogen project developer, in project development, supply and offtake agreements.
    • A developer in the development of two multi-billion dollar hydrogen and ammonia facilities in Texas.
    • A financing company in sale leaseback transactions for hydrogen equipment and hydrogen offtake agreements with various developers.
    • Macquarie Capital, through its Aerogy platform, in the development of renewable natural gas infrastructure projects throughout the Midwestern U.S.
    • An airline in its purchase of sustainable aviation fuel.

    Maritime, Telecommunications and Other Projects

    • A project developer in a five-party joint venture and related project agreements for a ~$1 billion steel pipe factory.
    • A maritime company in its joint venture with another maritime company for the provision of Jones Act compliant energy-industry vessels.
    • Various maritime companies in their public note offerings.
    • An energy and refined products company in billions of dollars’ worth of maritime terminalling and sale agreements of petrochemical products along the U.S. Gulf Coast across a dozen agreements.
    • Lenders in connection with the grant of certain debt facilities with an aggregate principal amount of CA$85 million to a fiber optic cable network developer for the expansion of its XGS-PON network in Central and Northern Alberta.
