Anne Murray, Partner in the Washington, D.C., office, is a member of the White Collar & Corporate Investigations team. Anne focuses on ethics, fraud, and corruption issues.  She regularly conducts internal investigations and defends companies and individuals in government investigations.

Anne frequently represents companies and individuals in matters before the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other government agencies. She conducts internal investigations and risk assessments; performs pre-acquisition anti-corruption diligence; counsels companies about compliance issues; and develops corporate compliance programs, policies, procedures and training models.

Anne has extensive experience in matters involving corruption and fraud, with a particular focus on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). She has represented multinational corporations across the aerospace, communications, defense, financial services, health care, hospitality and tourism, mining, oil and gas, technology, security, and shipping industries. She also has led investigations and compliance reviews throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, with on-the-ground experience in more than 16 countries including Brazil, China and Mexico.

She has represented companies and foreign sovereigns in complex civil litigation involving fraud, tort and contract claims.

Anne sits on the Firm’s Management Committee and co-leads the Firm’s Life Sciences Steering Committee.

  • Investigations

    • Defended multinational corporation in a five-year corruption and bribery investigation by the DOJ and SEC that spanned South America, Europe, Asia and Australia, and obtained declination letters from government.
    • Conducted an internal investigation into potential accounting fraud issues at multinational corporation on behalf of its Board of Directors.
    • Conducted internal investigation into ethics issues and product substitution at manufacturing plant.
    • Conducted internal investigation into fraud and corruption issues by third-party distributor to multinational.
    • Represented several individuals in industry-wide FCPA investigations related to oil services and pharmaceutical sectors.
    • Conducted an internal investigation into a healthcare company's operations in China.
    • Conducted internal investigation into corruption allegations related to U.S. public official.

    Monitorships, Risk Assessments, and Compliance Program Enhancement

    • Represented multinational throughout three-year DOJ and SEC-imposed FCPA compliance monitorship.
    • Operationalized compliance policies, procedures, and training throughout organization and counseled on internal controls.
    • Developed an anti-corruption compliance program for a life sciences company.
    • Performed a global anti-corruption risk assessment for a hospitality and tourism corporation with worldwide operations.
    • Developed criteria and conducted risk assessment for oil exploration company in the Middle East.
    • Conducted pre-acquisition anti-corruption due diligence for multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions involving energy companies in Canada, Australia, Chile, Mozambique, South Africa and Turkey.
