Samantha Leff

Samantha is a managing associate in the Supreme Court and Appellate Group. She represents clients in appellate and trial court litigation across the country. She has authored briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court, federal courts of appeals and federal and state trial courts.

She specializes in communicating complex concepts to judges of all backgrounds and her work spans a wide range of topics and industries—from cutting-edge life sciences innovation to groundbreaking technological creations. For example, Samantha served as the second chair in an Orrick team that won vacatur of a Board's IPR decision in a case involving DNA-sequencing technology. There, she drafted the Federal Circuit briefing on the winning argument that the Board committed legal error in its obviousness analysis. Samantha also recently led a pro bono appeal and delivered argument before the Federal Circuit on behalf of a U.S. veteran.

In district court litigation, Samantha has assisted with critical phases of litigation at the pre-trial, trial and post-trial stage, including motions to dismiss, claim construction, invalidity, infringement and post-trial motions.

Before joining Orrick, Samantha served as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard G. Taranto of the Federal Circuit. During law school, she served as extern to the Honorable Steven D. Grimberg of the Northern District of Georgia and to Justice Sarah Hawkins Warren of the Georgia Supreme Court.
