Defense manufacturing startup Castelion has emerged from stealth mode to announce $14.5 million in initial funding.
Orrick represented Castelion in a funding round co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Lavrock Ventures.
Castelion describes itself as a “new kind of defense manufacturing company.”
It focuses “on the rapid development and mass manufacturing of complex defense systems, with an emphasis on schedule, affordability, and scale – the critical components of maintaining the military advantage needed for a lasting and enduring peace.”
The funding, along with U.S. government contracts, will accelerate Castelion’s efforts “to design, build, and test capabilities that make affordable and timely overmatch possible,” the company said.
Orrick’s John Bautista led the team advising Castelion. The team also included Montana Ware, Laura Lariu, Daniel Garber and Sherry Zhou, with valuable support on related matters from Jeanine P. McGuinness, Daniel Kadin, Blake Ilstrup, Harry Clark, Jacob Gladysz, Daniel Yost and Mike Yang.
