Jeremy Kudon Featured as “Sports-Betting Field Marshal” for Professional Sports Leagues and Fantasy Sports Industry

GamblingCompliance has featured partner Jeremy Kudon in a two-part series for his market-leading work for professional sports leagues and the fantasy sports industry shaping sports betting legislation around the country, describing him as the “Sports-Betting Field Marshal” behind the expansion of online sports wagering.

In this profile (login/subscription required), Jeremy discusses the current landscape for sports betting and the growing number of states enacting legislation since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized it two years ago. Jeremy heads Orrick’s public policy group, which represents Major League Baseball, the NBA, the PGA, DraftKings and FanDuel, among others, in the effort.

“At times, I worry that I’ve been in a four or five-year dream. I am absolutely thrilled to be working on the issues I’m working on,” Jeremy told the publication.

In the second part of the feature (login/subscription required), Jeremy recounted the successful campaign to protect fantasy sports in 2018, when the industry faced regulatory challenges, as well as the effort to secure a share of gaming proceeds for the professional sports leagues. He also discussed the challenges involved in enacting online sports betting laws, given the resistance mounted by brick-and-mortar casinos.

“With sports betting, everyone is rowing in a different direction and keeping everyone aligned takes a lot of work,” Jeremy said.
