Orrick's Xiang Wang Named Asia IP Lawyer of the Year

February.23.2017

Orrick's Xiang Wang was selected as Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year at the Asian Lawyer Legal Awards, Asia’s premier celebration of the legal elite. The awards, which are jointly sponsored by The American Lawyer, China Law & Practice and Legal Week, recognize exceptional achievements in 2016. Xiang is based in Orrick’s Beijing office and serves as Orrick’s Asia Managing Partner.

In the past year, Xiang and a global Orrick team successfully defended Chinese state-owned China National Building Materials Group in a $1.3 billion class action lawsuit. The case sets important precedent for Chinese SOEs and the Chinese government, as well as government entities more generally, clarifying the scope and protections of sovereign immunity. Xiang also counseled on the largest-ever U.S. industrial espionage case against Chinese individuals. In addition, Xiang and his team advised on a wide range of IP-driven transactions for some of China’s largest and most successful tech companies.

"We’re honored to receive this award. It  has been an extraordinary year, and this award is really a tribute to the work of an exceptional Orrick team worldwide," said Xiang.

Orrick was also shortlisted for IP Firm of the Year and M&A Deal of the Year: North Asia for its work on JD.com and a U.S.-based multinational retail corporation's $1.5 billion partnership.
