FT Names Orrick to Innovative U.S. Firm List

December.04.2014

Financial Times recognized Orrick among North America’s top ten most innovative law firms in a recent report, “North America Innovative Lawyers.” Orrick won the litigation category for its work on Oracle v. Google and was also commended for work by its real estate, public policy and finance teams. In addition, Josh Rosenkranz was named to FT’s prestigious 10 Most Innovative Individuals List, which FT describes as the “legal legends…who inspired in the courtroom and beyond.”

Orrick took the #1 spot in a ranking of innovation in litigation, with the FT’s judges praising our team and client Oracle for “demystifying the technical issues” in Oracle v. Google. FT reported that lead counsel Josh Rosenkranz brought a “touch of magic” to the appellate arguments.

FT also recognized Orrick’s innovative litigation work for DISH Network, making us one of the only law firms to have two matters ranked in the litigation category. The panel of judges commended Orrick for using creative arguments to defeat a bid by broadcasters to enjoin new DISH Network features. FT called the outcome a “win for consumers.” DISH’s line-up in the ongoing case includes Peter Bicks, Elyse Echtman, Josh Rosenkranz and Annette Hurst.

In the Corporate/Commercial category, we were commended for our work on behalf of Hackman in its acquisition of a real estate portfolio from bankrupt Hostess Brands. Dennis Martin led the Orrick team on this matter.

Our public policy group was also recognized for novel litigation avoidance strategies that are helping clients solve problems via state legislative efforts. Our public policy practice is helmed by partners Jeremy Kudon and Rob McKenna.

We’re also tremendously proud to have made the social impact list for our cutting-edge work in the burgeoning global field of impact finance. Orrick is the first global law firm to establish a practice group focused specifically on the impact finance market, in which investors actively seek to generate positive social and environmental impact.

FT has recognized Orrick in every FT report on North American legal innovation since the inaugural report in 2010. This year, FT has also commended Orrick’s innovation work in Europe and Asia. FT recognized Orrick as one of twenty most innovative international law firms in its inaugural Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers report.
