Pro Bono Team Helps Recover Insurance Money Following Superstorm Sandy

September.19.2013

New York managing securities litigation and regulatory enforcement associate Alison Roffi, supervised by Washington, D.C., insurance of counsel Peri Mahaley, successfully represented a small business owner whose Red Hook beauty salon was completely wiped out by Superstorm Sandy.

Alison and Peri were able to convince the client's insurer to reverse their position denying coverage of her business losses. Due to our team's forceful advocacy, the client was one of the few pro bono clients who suffered considerable loss as a result of the storm and who recovered any money from an insurer.

"This was a very meaningful representation," said Alison. "Our client was literally left only with her car, which she was living out of when I first met with her—it was her sole place of refuge following the devastation to her business and apartment caused by Superstorm Sandy. That we were able to help the client recover money to help her rebuild her business and get back on her feet is very gratifying."
