DeutschDigitaler Omnibus: Die Reformvorschläge der Europäischen Kommission zur EU-Digitalgesetz- gebung

In the current edition of the German law journal Betriebs-Berater (16/2026), Dr. Daniel Ashkar and Dr. Christian Schröder discuss the European Commission’s reform proposals for EU digital legislation in the course of the Digital Omnibus.

The Digital Omnibus reform includes proposals for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which would introduce substantive changes to GDPR for the first time. In addition, the reform proposals suggest changes to EU legal acts in the cyber and data law fields, which particularly also affect the Data Act. A significant amendment to the EU AI Act would be the adjustment and in principle postponement of the transition periods for the application of its requirements regarding high-risk AI systems. The article further explains the potential implications of these reform proposals for businesses.
