Lawrence Burns counsels clients on data innovation, including machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), intellectual property, data privacy, and use and acquisition of a wide range of technologies. He leverages this experience to protect clients' intellectual property, defend clients facing privacy related class actions and data breach litigation, and advise on data breach notification.
In addition to data innovation, privacy, and cybersecurity work, Lawrence has handled diverse intellectual property and civil litigation matters in federal and state courts. His litigation experience includes patent infringement, trademark/trade dress infringement, ITC investigations, and complex commercial litigation.
Lawrence brings an interesting outlook on the law shaped by his unique experiences, such as working on intellectual property transactions for HBO’s legal team, and studying abroad at multiple schools in Tokyo, Japan, where he developed advanced Japanese proficiency. Lawrence was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles, and actively looks to give back to his community through pro bono matters.
