Orrick Represents the Creditor Committee on Belize Bond Restructuring

November.10.2021

Orrick advised the bondholder creditor committee, including Aberdeen Standard, Grantham Mayo van Otterloo and Greylock Capital, on the Belize government’s buyback of its $553 million bonds due 2034.

The Orrick team was led by Thomas Laryea and included Lorraine McGowen and Sushila Nayak.

Thomas notes that “The ESG aspects to the restructuring, involving the buy-back of the bonds with funding by The Nature Conservancy, and with support from the U.S. International Development Financing Corporation, made this restructuring particularly interesting. Orrick was well-positioned to advise the creditor committee on this innovative restructuring, given the Firm’s strengths in both sovereign debt and ESG.”
