Orrick Advises Whitehelm Capital on Developing its Second West Coast Smart City with SiFi Networks

July.08.2021

We represented Whitehelm Capital in its equity investment in and joint venture with SiFi Networks through its Smart City Infrastructure Fund, a pension fund-backed initiative dedicated to funding smart city projects globally utilizing next-generation digital infrastructure, to construct its second West Coast FiberCity™, a city-wide fiber network to be used by both business and residential locations in Placentia, California.

The deal was structured as a joint venture. Placentia is the third FiberCity™ funded through the Smart City Infrastructure Fund and will offer businesses and homes access to state-of-the-art smart city applications, including e-education, e-health and waste management. SiFi, an experienced international network developer, will provide the day-to-day operational support and management of the company.

Construction on the Placentia FiberCity commenced in June with anticipated completion by 2023. Adjacent to its first West Coast FiberCity in Fullerton, the Placentia FiberCity expands SCIF’s presence in California and will accommodate the growing demand for high quality, reliable digital infrastructure.

The team advising Whitehelm Capital was led by John Donaleski, with support from Dao Huynh, Savannah Raymond and Michelle Pichardo.
