Law360 Names Orrick to Global 20 List for Eighth Time

August.19.2019

Law360 has once again recognized Orrick on its Global 20 list, a ranking of the world’s 20 leading international law firms. This is the firm’s eighth appearance on the list since its inception in 2011.

Law360 noted Orrick’s growth strategy focused on strengthening its global offerings for clients in the technology & innovation, energy & infrastructure and finance sectors, including opening an office in Boston focused on top quality global cyber & privacy advice. Orrick Chairman Mitch Zuklie explained to Law360 that the firm’s global success can be attributed to the firm's sector focus. “That focus on tech, energy and finance and building transactional and litigation strengths around it is how we look at the world. And we’ve selected those transactional and litigation and regulatory areas where we think we can have distinctive strengths, combined with our longstanding experience in the sector.”

The article also highlighted the firm’s position as the third-most active law firm in venture capital, including helping 11 companies achieve unicorn status since 2018. In an interview with Law360, Chris Grew, head of Orrick’s London Technology Companies Group, talked about Orrick’s focus on serving an increasingly global tech ecosystem: “A lot of people still look at Silicon Valley as a mecca for technology companies, and a lot of focus is still there. But the market for technology companies really doesn’t have borders anymore. A technology company coming out of the United Kingdom can just as easily do business in the U.S. as a French company or a company in New York.”

In describing Orrick’s impact in the energy and infrastructure sector, Law360 noted the firm’s advice on groundbreaking deals in Africa, including the largest independent power plant development in Africa’s history. Yves Lepage, head of the firm’s Africa practice, credited the success of the practice to the firm’s collaborative “one team” approach globally.
