This article, about project finance trends and the overall outlook for the market in the coming year, quotes energy and infrastructure partner Dan Mathews.

Mathews stated that many renewable energy companies may chose to migrate towards solar.

"Lots of the investors in solar are investors in wind," Mathews stated. "They're thought of as niche [industries], but they're connected to each other."

Mathews also commented on the debt side of proceedings, with many expecting to see the expanded use of project bonds to finance larger-scale projects.

"Capital markets are pretty hot," Mathews said, adding that Japanese and American banks have done just fine in their European counterparts' stead.

Mathews also estimated that public-private partnerships will continue to gain traction in 2013, citing the recent pushes to privatize Chicago's Midway Airport and the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
