Unlocking the Promise of Data - The EU Data Act: An Open Virtual Forum

Speaking Engagement | April.17.2024 | 11:00am - 12:30pm (Central Standard Time)

Christian Schröder co-led a virtual forum on the European Union (EU) Data Act, organized by The Sedona Conference on International Electronic Information, Discovery, and Disclosure (WG6). The panel of in-house and outside counsel from the EU and the U.S. led a discussion on what this free flow of data will mean for companies operating within and outside the EU who may want access to this data or be forced by the new rules to disclose data. They explored whether those outside the EU could benefit from the Data Act, which would in many instances require cross-border transfer safeguards for non-personal and business data, and how companies should be preparing for this new shift in EU law.

Panelists:

  • Christian Schröder, Partner, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe
  • Natascha Gerlach, Center for Information Policy Leadership
  • Philipp Haas, Robert Bosch GmbH
