Masao Fujino is a senior associate in Orrick's Tokyo office who focuses on intellectual property, privacy and antitrust.

He also handles the following:

  • Dispute resolution procedures in and outside Japan for commercial matters in general;
  • Terms of service and privacy policies for SaaS and mobile apps; and
  • Regulations regarding online B2C transactions and advertisement.

He has also worked in the legal department of an insurance company.

He is licensed in Japan, California and New York.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, he was an engineer in a Japanese software company. While he was a legal trainee after passing the Japanese bar examination, he studied at the Japanese space agency (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and the intellectual property division of the Tokyo District Court. He also obtained a masters degree from Stanford Law School as a Fulbright scholar (US government scholarship).

    • Represented a Japanese chemical company in Japanese trade secret litigation.
    • Represented a Japanese apparel company in a dispute with a US apparel company regarding copyright and trademark disputes before courts of Japan.
    • Represented a European software company in a dispute with Japanese employees regarding trade secret misappropriation and copyright infringement.
    • Prepared privacy policies for various European and US tech companies.
    • Prepared software license agreements and SaaS agreements for various European and US tech companies.
    • Provided antitrust and unfair competition counseling to various Japanese, European and US companies.
    • Seconded to a Japanese subsidiary of a US insurance company.
