Yumiko Olsen advises clients on a variety of issues concerning data protection matters, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) - be it specific questions, comprehensive compliance programs, or legal proceedings before data protection authorities or courts. She also advises on IP- and IT-related matters and unfair and deceptive trade practices law.

Yumiko partners with clients globally to navigate complex data protection issues relating to GDPR and German data protection laws. She helps clients assess privacy risks and establish strategies for the development of privacy-compliant products and the implementation of applications. Her support also includes providing and assessing various privacy-related policies, processes and documentation, such as intra-group agreements, data protection impact assessments and data subject rights' procedures. Yumiko also assists her clients in aligning their marketing efforts with privacy considerations. She has supported clients in privacy proceedings before the data protection authorities and courts.

As an intellectual property and technology advisor, Yumiko advises companies on their licensing agreements and company contracts, including negotiating contracts and advising on unfair and deceptive trade practices law. She also litigates matters relating to IT contracts and unfair and deceptive trade practices before German courts.

With a German/Japanese background, Yumiko is a great advisor for Japanese clients. She is trilingual in German, Japanese and English. She studied at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn, Germany and Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan.

Prior to joining Orrick, Yumiko worked as a scientific researcher at Bonn University and as an associate in the field of IP/IT and data privacy with another international law firm.
