THE COMPANY

The cloud computing and IT managed services company iomart has agreed to acquire Extrinsica, one of the first 25 Microsoft Azure cloud solution providers in the world.

Based in the UK, Extrinsica helps companies make digital transformations. It provides integrated services, from design and build to management of customers’ mission-critical production workloads.

Orrick advised Extrinsica in the sale. The firm advised Extrinsica on its first round of financing, in 2017, and on each of its equity rounds and debt financings since.

Glasgow-based iomart provides hybrid cloud infrastructure, network connectivity, security and digital workplace capability to help customers connect, secure and scale. The company has data centres and offices across the UK.

THE IMPACT

The acquisition provides iomart and its customers with Microsoft Azure expertise from a UK-based team of 33 in a deal that aligns with iomart’s secure hybrid cloud strategy. Extrinsica customers gain access to iomart products.

Extrinsica CEO Simon Smith will continue to lead the business as CEO.

"Joining iomart marks an exciting phase for our highly skilled, experienced and ambitious team, providing us with a strengthened platform for growth,” he said. “It allows us to leverage joint capabilities, capitalise on our understanding of the markets we operate in and build upon our significant achievements to date.”

Reece Donovan, CEO of iomart, said the acquisition sets the stage for future growth.

"We are delighted to welcome the Extrinsica team to iomart, providing a large step forward in iomart's capabilities to support existing and new customers in their use of Microsoft's Azure cloud platform.” Donovan said. “Simon and the team have been at the forefront of the market developments of Azure since 2017 and have deep skills and expertise in this in-demand area of cloud computing, which will accelerate the initial investments we have made in our own Microsoft resources and capabilities.”

THE TEAM

The Orrick team that advised Extrinsica includes Shawn Atkinson, Shaun Malone, James Edwards, Jonathan Rosen, Anna Humphrey, David Walder, Andrew Holland, Nicholas Villalta, Richard Hunt, Milan Baxter, Charlotte Oliver and Emma Zarb.
